Well after 5 years my Rca rear projection Hdtv died :-(, not quite the life expectancy I was expecting for a $1400.00 tv. And to add insult to injury I just upgraded my DirecTV system to Hdtv, that was a $300.00 dollar hit alone. The whole having to pay to upgrade thing I think is a complete rip off considering new customers get a much better deal than current customers. I have been a 6 year + DirecTV customer and still had to pay to get a new receiver. Plus I had to agree to a new contract for 18 months for hdtv service. The real kicker with Direct Tv is you really don’t own the equipment like you used to, you’re leasing it. So you’re paying $300 to get new equipment to buy a service from them that you don’t own. Kind of hard to swallow but I decided to take the plunge and take advantage of my Rca’s high definition capabilities.
One the second install attempt (first one got canceled by installer) my high definition system was up and running, victory!! What an amazing picture, I was highly impressed by the picture quality that the Rca was able to output for a rear projection unit. But that was short lived after probably 5 weeks the Rca was getting very difficult to turn on. Then it was not able to turn on at all. After some doing some research via Google I came to the conclusion it really was not worth the time and money to fix old technology. So I was on the hunt for a new TV. I first went to Team Mayo in Pikeville (was where I bought my Rca) to see what they had on stock but I quickly noticed they did not have a inventory like they used to. Team Mayo probably had 10-15 TV’s in the showroom. I was not impressed with the selection or the fact that over half were not priced. So I quickly marked Team Mayo off my list. After a couple of days me and my little girl went to the Big Sandy superstore in Pikeville. Now that does the way a electronics department should be, probably have over 50 TV’s on display with prices & TV specs clearly visible. Another thing I must note here is customer service that plays a HUGE role in where I do my business. If I have had a bad experience, slow service, or whatever somewhere that’s all it takes for them to lose my money. I am the type of person that will pay a premium for good service over low price and bad customer service. Maybe it was the time of day or something but when I went to Team Mayo I was not assisted by anyone until it was too late. I was looking around for a good 10 minutes before anyone came to me and then it was like “hold on while I find someone for you”. The Big Sandy Superstore was completely different I was able to browse without being aggravated by the sales staff and we generated a good rapport.
After getting pressured by my little girl to “hurry up” (she has yet to understand that a electronics department to a guy is like a toy store is to her lol) it came down to 2 TV’s. One was another 52inch lcd (same size I previously had) and a 47inch lcd. To me the 47 had a much better crisp brighter picture. After a few more minutes it was a no brainier and I got the LG 47LC7DF 47-inch 1080p LCD HDTV
. I was kind of reluctant at first to go smaller on the screen size but the picture quality was the deciding factor. After getting it home and hooking up the Direct Tv system all I can say is wow! The Picture quality is amazing it looks almost 3d. You notice so much more when you watch a high definition program. You really see how dirty Dirty Jobs is. I am completely hooked on Discovery HD, History channel HD, Nat geo HD, and so much more. The Rca rear projection holds nothing against the LG 47LC7DF 47-inch 1080p LCD HDTV
.
