Tversity Version 1.0.0.3 RC2 now available

Tech No Comments »

Tversity has just released version 1.0.0.3 RC2 here are some of the updates/fixes in this release.

  • New Features
    • Album art support is now available and is compatible with the Sony PS3 as well as with the HTML interface (PSP, iPhone, Blackberry, etc.) and flash interface (Wii). Album art relies on JPEG files conforming to certain naming conventions that are present in the same folder as music tracks. These files can be created by either Windows Media Player or WinAmp and TVersity will pick them up, or users can add them manually.
    • Individual YouTube videos can now be added by pointing the browser to a specific video on YouTube and dragging and dropping the address bar icon to TVersity (or copying and pasting the URL).
  • Bug Fixes
    • MShare now refreshes as fast as it was in 0.9.11.4.
    • No files are periodically added to the Temporary Internet Files folder while the GUI is running (browser caching was turned off).
    • Fix crashes when adding/refreshing some FLAC and some MP3 files.
    • Flash interface is now more reliable when switching from one live stream to another and then going back to first one.
    • TVersity service was failing to start on machines that had a non ASCII character in their hostname.

I have just finished updating my server and will report back later in a couple of days of any issues when using with a Directv HR21-700 receiver.

Going for a change @ Prestonsburg City Council

East ky News, Rant & Raves 2 Comments »

Well after reading an article on the Floyd County Times website, it’s interesting to see that “Munroe” is going to run for city council with 3 other wannabe council members Bucky Collins, Harry Adams, and Tony Conn. Looks like it’s going to be an interesting race. From the article it seems that none of the candidates have an exact plan on what they would do other then fixing some signs, or some general issues, with not getting specific on how they would obtain their goals. It’s easy to say you want to boost the local economy but what good is it to elect you if you have no idea on where to begin? I’m sure every council member right now would love to boost Prestonsburg’s economy and bring in new business but that is definitely easier said than done.

There was also a note about the Prestonsburg’s wireless access and how it was opposed by some. Is it even still operational? Not heard anything about it since its launch. Like I said before unfortunately IMO this was a waste of time and money. Wireless access is not a deciding factor in recruiting new businesses. It’s a nice perk I guess I would say but that’s about it. Here is a article from Virginiabuisness. In the article you will see that Bristol decided to with fiber optics to lure in new business’s, and guess what? A business in the neighboring state moved its 30 employee business there. Fiber optics is the future.

Just to save a buck

Well after AT&T has successfully got rid of kiddie porn on usenet I decided to do a simple search using my newsreader and using the key word “sex” and to my surprise I find probably over 200 groups that still exist. Way to go AT&T you have effectively done nothing. As I posted earlier getting rid of the alt.binary groups will not accomplish a thing. This was all done to save some $$. Here is their “official announcement:

Notice
AT&T takes its obligation to protect its customers from child pornography very seriously. We’re working with public officials and the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children in the effort to help prevent the distribution of this harmful and illegal content.

We’ll continue to provide access to newsgroups as part of our broadband offering, but we’ll no longer include alt.bin* nor alt.bain* hierarchies because of the possibility of child pornography in those particular groups and the difficulty in ensuring that no child porn reappears in them.

Our customers will continue to have full access to all lawful content on the Internet. That includes newsgroups, which are available from multiple sources, not just ISPs.

Customers may still access lawful content of their choosing from unaffiliated newsgroup providers.

Currently there are no reported issues. However, if you are experiencing a problem with the News Service or if you have any other concerns please email us at newshelp@bellsouth.com

Just admit it AT&T you did not remove the alt.binary groups to help fight kiddie porn (although it makes you look good) you did it to help cut your costs.

Below is a screen shot I took from an updated group list from AT&T’s newsgroup server: newsgroups.bellsouth.net

Must have application

Tech No Comments »

So I was browsing around some forums I frequent and there was another one of those “show off your desktop” posts where people take snap shots off there desktops to show off there background and what not. While checking out some cool background pics I noticed this cool app on the bottom of some people’s screen right above the task bar. After asking I came to find out it was Rocketdock. All I can say is wow what a great little application for windows users, mac users already have this built in to the OS. Rocketdock is a animated application launcher sorta like the quick launch in the task bar, but so much better. So good in fact I am about to remove the quick launch bar all together.

Here are a couple of pics I found on Google.

And best of all it’s FREE! If your a heavy computer user like myself I’m sure your going to like rocketdock after trying it.
